Complexities in fracture mechanics analysis of welded tubular joints of offshore structures

Abstract

The prediction of the fatigue life of welded tubular joints using fracture mechanics analysis is considered. A crack growth model which takes account of local weld geometry effects in connection with stress intensity factor equations is applied to tubular joints. The results are compared with laboratory test results.
