Abstract

Global warming accompanied with energy crisis and environmental pollution has triggered a paradigm shift from Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) driven vehicles to Electric Vehicles (EVs). EVs are a clean mode of transportation with limited driving range. EVs need to be recharged at the charging stations after travelling certain distance to overcome driving range anxiety. Charging stations need to be placed at proper locations to overcome driving range anxiety. Placement of charging stations is an intricate problem involving convolution of transport and distribution network. This work aims to provide a comprehensive review of different planning models for charging station placement thereby providing classification of the models and highlighting characteristics of each model.
