Abstract

The paper conceptualises roadmapping as a dynamic strategic practice and discusses the connections of foresight, innovation management and strategic management. The paper argues that organisations have a rising need to construct and foster relevant future-oriented knowledge that builds on the systemic understanding of the 'grand challenges', and to link this knowledge with actual strategic practices in the organisation. For this purpose, the paper outlines a framework of organisational foresight practice that aims at converting futures information towards futures knowledge emphasising multi-disciplinarity, systemic technology-economy-society interactions, ecosystem leadership, and builds towards a continuous strategic foresight platform. The paper fleshes out this framework through a case study of a Finnish research and technology organisation, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
