COST C8 Action 4: 4 Aims and 40 + 40 + 40 Results: Networking for Best Practice of Sustainable Urban Infrastucture

The COST Urban Civil Engineering (UCE) Action C8 “Best Practice in Sustainable Urban Infrastructure” was launched in 1998 in order to promote best practice among planners, designers and other practitioners and decision-makers when trying to approach sustainable solutions in urban infrastructures. The Action had four main aims: to exchange experience on, to assess different solutions of, to compare and develop methods for and to promote best practices concerning sustainable urban infrastructure. As a result the Action is preparing a practice-oriented handbook including both useful methods and tools for assessing sustainability and a selection of good practice cases in different countries. The Action has brought together more than 40 active partners and at least 40 research institutes in sixteen European countries and also observers from Canada and United States. The Action has collected a data file of 40 interesting case studies dealing with assessment methods and tools dealing with all types of urban infrastructure: transport, energy, water, waste water, solid waste, telecommunication and blue-green infrastructure.
