Abstract
The paper summarises the midterm results of the European thematic network CRISP and describes the current status of the project. The CRISP network within the 5th Framework of the EC started in June 2000. The main activities of the Network, gathering 24 members from16 countries are (1) to define a framework and general methodology for indicators, (2) to stimulate and co-ordinate the development and use of indicators, (3) to gather indicators within a database and (4) to widely disseminate the results of the research carried out. CRISP has structured the sustainability indicators according to Type (Pressure, Performance, State, Impact, Response, Efficiency); geographic Impact level; Sustainable development issue (Environmental, Economic, Social); and Construction category (Urban, Infrastructure, Buildings, Building products and Processes). CRISP collects both individual indicators and systems of indicators. Sustainability indicators are often made use of as systems or as sets of individual indicators rather than as individual indicators. CRISP characterises the use and status of indicator systems according to the following items: Developer Purpose; Implementation scale, Users; User countries.
