Abstract

This report summarizes PreMed project results and activities in project phase 3 (1.1.2020 - 30.04.2021). The activities have been focused in three main areas: biobank study (data collection, integration and analysis), ecosystem modelling and dissemination (project workshops and other events). The biobank study addresses pharmacogenomics of antithrombotic drugs. The experiences of the data collection (data permit applications, data quality check and integration etc.) were documented to provide input for national and international development of infrastructures for secondary use of health data and biobanking. We carried out data analysis to reveal associations between genotypes and health outcomes in patients using antithrombotic drugs. Associations were found for warfarin, direct oral anticoagulants and ticagrelor. The results are expected to be helpful in identifying individuals with suboptimal response to antithrombotic medication. The project also developed a simulation model for the analysis of different precision medicine ecosystem development scenarios. For example, different public funding scenarios can be compared in terms of their effect to the volume of data-driven projects initiated by the pharmaceutical industry. The project has continued dissemination of project results in two internal project workshops and one public workshop. The project results have so far been published in two journal articles and two conference papers. The data analysis continues in VTT’s internal project activities as enabled by the data permits.
