Abstract
Advanced algorithms (mostly software based technologies) have been developed during the recent decades and they have been applied to e.g. control and monitoring purposes. Typical examples of these advances methods are machine learning, artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, neural networks, fuzzy logic, statistical methods, and operation analysis. In many cases advanced algorithms methods have large potential, but due to their impractical applicability they are omitted. The paper outlines engineering design practices for algorithmic or knowledge intensive intelligent systems and services.
