Abstract
Stress testing has become a popular method for testing
systems against extraordinary events, e.g. regarding the
emergency preparedness of nuclear power plants or the
stability of banks against financial threats. Stress
testing differs considerably from the other risk
management tools used in industrial applications. VTT is
developing a general method for stress testing in
cooperation with Finnish environmental authorities. The
first application of the method is focused on the mining
sector.
