    Abstract

This paper tries to describe and analyse the use of a development project as a means of strategy implementation. In the research, empirical data based on interviews linking strategy and development projects in Finnish industry is combined with a theoretical discussion on using new product and internal development projects in strategy implementation. Different forms of strategy implementation in various strategy schools were considered. The linking of strategy and development projects was classified into three categories: 1) Development projects are derived from strategy; 2) the objectives of development projects are derived from strategy, and 3) the selection criteria of development projects are derived from strategy.
