    Abstract

A variety of manufacturing control paradigms and principles are investigating solutions for systems of high flexibility, from the point of view of operating the system as well as maintaining the system structures and configurations. Here we introduce an emergent agent concept to implement control algorithms and application architectures for flexible control of manufacturing flow shops. We also give a more detailed overview about the building blocks of an adequate agent system architecture, the "manAge" architecture and describe an application example about electronics manufacturing.
