Abstract
Swift, efficient and relatively inexpensive testing methods were developed for estimating the effects of sharp, momentary changes of temperature and pressure and long-term exposures on the durability of ceramic filters. Silicon carbide and cordierite based filters were used as test aterials. The usability of the Internal Hydraulic Pressure test method for ceramic filters was studied and the more well known Diametral Compression test (O-ring test) was used as a reference test method. In this paper the testing methods and equipment are described and the results from the first exposure tests are briefly outlined. Most of the tests were carried out in more severe conditions than are typical for the PFBC or gasification applications.
