Abstract

An ATEM study of the precipitation of secondary phases in the temperature range of 600-800°C was undertaken for two P/M-HIP super duplex stainless steel grades. It was shown that main secondary phase precipitating after the aging treatment at 600°C for 10 h is R phase, at 700°C for 2 h chi phase, and at 800°C for 30 min sigma phase, respectively. The corrosion resistance of duplex stainless steels was analyzed from the point of view of the morphology and composition of the precipitating phases. It was also shown that aging treatment of copper-containing duplex steel results in precipitation of Cu-rich particles. The effects of the precipitated copper particles on corrosion and mechanical properties of the steel are discussed, as well as their possible indirect effects via intermetallic phases.
