    Abstract

The electrochemical behavior of low-index planes of Fe-14.5Cr-14.5Ni-2.5Mo single crystal in a deaerated 5N H2SO4 + 0.5N NaCl solution was studied. Anisotrophy was found in passivation properties whereas active dissolution showed only slight orientation dependence. These results suggest that dissolution models alone are inadequate to interprete the crystallographi fracture surface appearance of stress corrosion cracking in austenitic stainless steels.
