Abstract

VTT Energy has been studying the impact of waste management alternatives on greenhouse gas emissions as part of the Finnish national research programme on energy and environment SIHTI. Financial support has been obtained also from the Ministry of Environment and the company, Vapo. The objective has been to provide decision-makers with information on the potential for controlling the impact of waste management on the greenhouse effect. The study complements the research at VTT Energy that is aimed at supporting environmental policy-making in the reduction of the greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation of global warming.
