Abstract

Conceptual modelling method far representing product data description is presented. It is compatible with the existing database technologies and product data management systems. The method enables modelling product data hierarchies from several points of view and linking them together. It is argued that by searching optimal configuration ranges from different points of view optimum and combining them a company wide pareto-optimum can be found and applied in modularisation. In the search of optimum a provided modelling method is to be used. A modularisation method that applies the presented modelling method and matrix clustering is suggested. Both the modelling and clustering methods are tested with a case study.
