Abstract
An extensive project (1996 - 2000) was carried out to develop risk management tools for SMEs in Finland. The results of the development work; The Risk Management Tool-kit was published both in printed and electronic format. The Tool-kit covers the risks found to be most critical to Finnish SMEs: SME personnel risks, business risks, product risks, agreement and liability risks and other risks, such as information risks, project risks and fire risks. The user is offered information about different risks, tools to assess them and plan and review the control measures to be taken. The Tool-kit has been welcomed to Finnish economic life and society. It has been successfully implemented in different fields of trade and industry as well as in municipal and public sector. Over a year after the completion of the project, the Tool-kit has convinced thousands of enterprises and dozens of their stakeholders.
