Abstract
The main aim of the EXPIDE IST-1999-29105 cluster project
is to combine the knowledge gained by many different
European funded research projects to create a coherent
view about extended products in dynamic enterprises. This
paper explains briefly the new term "Extended Product"
and describes how a physical product can be extended with
intangible functions and services. An introduction to the
Observatory of research work in the area is given
together with the first observed general trends.
