Abstract

The symposium Fatigue Design 1992, will be held on May 19 22, 1992 in Helsinki. The topic of the symposium is the design of structures and machine components subjected to cyclic loading. A total of 51 papers report recent progress on the prevention of fatigue failure of engineering structures. They cover the fields of fatigue design, analysis and testing through reviews, research reports and illustrative case studies. These two volumes consist of five invited lectures and 46 other presentations by authors originating from 22 countries. They deal with subjects related to service loading, welded structures, surface improvement methods, optimization and numerical analysis (FEM, BEM), multiaxial fatigue, probabilistic approaches, component testing and analysis, case studies and good design practice. Special emphasis is given to multiaxial fatigue, probabilistic aspects and good design practice.
