    Abstract

VTT Manufacturing Technology participated in the four-year Intemordic KONSPRO-project, which was completed in 1997. The project work in Finland included vehicle field measurements, component testing, fatigue assessments and especially research of multiaxial fatigue and integration of FEM and fatigue. This project lead to the continuation in form of a national project: 'Mechanical Simulation & Fatigue". This on-going project concentrates on the evaluation of the stresses and strains for different fatigue analysis methods using mechanical simulation together with FEA. In addition to these, VTT participates the on-going EU-project: "Fatigue of High Tensile Steels in Ship Structures", where VTT conducts part of the small and large scale component fatigue testing. Also the co-operation between VTT and Lappeenranta University of Technology is intense. The main common research area at the moment is :"High Cycle Fatigue of Welded Structures and Hot Spot -Approach". This presentation summarises part of the final and the preliminary results of the above mentioned research projects.
