    Abstract

Fibre-based biocomposites are sustainable materials from a renewable source and are an alternative to fossil-based plastic materials. One of the main drivers of the development efforts in this field is the trend towards greater environmental awareness. VTT has more than a decade of experience, on national and international projects, within the field of fibre-based biocomposites. This paper looks at the possibilities offered by and some of VTT's experience in material research and processing of fibre-based composites, with the focus on thermoplastic materials.
