Abstract
Public nuclear power plant safety research in Finland has
been conducted under national research programmes since
1989. The mission of the research programme derives from
the stipulations of the Finnish Nuclear Energy Act
concerning ensuring the availability of expertise in
nuclear safety. The ongoing four-year research programme
SAFIR2014 has an annual volume of about 70 person-years,
of which VTT's contribution is 50 person-years. In 2012
research was conducted in 42 pro jects, 35 of which were
managed by VTT. VTT is also responsible for the
administration of the programme.
