Abstract
Full scale tests with two sisterships, the first having a ducted propeller and the second a conventional one, were made. The propellershaft torque and thrust as well as the forces acting on the nozzle were measured and the ice conditions registered. The propulsive performances of the ships are compared and the thrust distribution between the nozzle and the propeller in different ice conditions is presented. Ice loads on the propulsion systems are discussed, as is the blocking of the nozzle.
