Future of Bioenergy in the Baltic Sea Region - workshop report

    Abstract

    The workshop was the first event in the activities of BASREC (Baltic Sea Region Energy Co-operation) pertaining to improve framework conditions to increased use of biomass in energy production. The workshop was a part of EU Synergy financed project BASREC 2002 and based on activities and work of the Nordic Council of Ministers (Bio2002Energy-project), Baltic 21 Energy and the Barents Euro-Arctic region (BEAC) working groups on energy, forestry and environment. The workshop was held on 6th - 7th of March in Jyväskylä, Finland. The workshop was primarily targeted on representatives of those public sector actors in the Baltic Sea region Countries that are responsible for the advancement of the conditions for the use of biomass as a source of energy. The workshop was planned and implemented by VTT Processes in co-operation with the Bio2002Energy project group. The workshop consisted of 19 presentations and discussions in 5 groups. This report is a compilation of the presentations and the results of the group discussions.
