Abstract

A method is presented for solving the spherical wave expansion (SWE) from far‐field amplitude‐only data. The idea is to minimize the least‐squares difference between the amplitude of the measured field and that of a calculated SWE using a combination of a genetic algorithm (GA) and Newton's method. The uniqueness aspects of the problem are addressed. A measured antenna radiation pattern is analyzed with and without phase data and the results are compared.
