Abstract
In addition to the intensity of grammage variation, the scale of the variation is very important. The scale of formation has been characterized, e.g., by Jordan's perimeter, variance vs. zone size, power spectrum etc. However, sometimes these methods give results which are difficult to interpret or seem to contradict the visual impression. One of the cases in which this occurs is the detection of "grainy" or "cloudy" formation. In this work we present a method to quantify graininess of formation.
