    Abstract

The objective of project 'High performance ventilation in large farm buildings' (2006-2009) is to affect on animal welfare and productivity by improving the functionality and risk management of ventilation in animal houses. This paper presents basic principles for designing ventilation for cold climate, system concepts for ventilation and methodology for commissioning and performance evaluation. The performances of two typical ventilation systems in farm buildings are presented. During the project 10-15 case studies have been measured. The development and research needs and ideas how to improve the performance of ventilation and energy systems in farm buildings in cold climate are presented.
