Abstract
Tungsten coatings were exposed to He/D2 plasma in the
linear plasma machine Pilot PSI. Different He contents
were used in the plasma. The sample surface temperature
and plasma ion energy were varied. Changes in the surface
morphology were studied using scanning electron
microscopy (SEM) and x-ray diffraction (XRD). SEM images
revealed that compared with the unexposed samples, there
were significant changes in the surface morphology. The
structures formed were strongly dependent on the
experimental conditions. XRD spectra showed that exposure
to plasma leads to an increase in the crystallite size
and to a decrease in the lattice parameter
