    Abstract

This paper studies methods to produce a generic device description language for home automation devices. The need for a mechanism producing such is crucial to improve interoperability of the devices. The grammar is based on XML and its vocabulary and structure is presented. The implementation prototype for remote programming utilising this format contained LON network based automation devices. The prototype produces a complete LON device description with the aid of supporting external information. The process of forming device descriptions from X10 and Bluetooth devices is also presented in this paper.
