    Abstract

News media organisations are under constant pressure to innovate and renew themselves. Under these conditions, intrapreneurship offers a way to advance innovation from within existing organisations by enabling employees to initiate, develop, and promote new ideas as part of their everyday work. This article examines how intrapreneurial practices support innovation in journalism and media work. Drawing on a practice-based, multi-level framework, the study analyses intrapreneurial activity at individual, team, and organisational levels in two Finnish news media companies. Based on a dual-case study of semi-structured interviews with media managers, the analysis examines concrete episodes that explain how intrapreneurial activity is initiated, advanced, and supported in journalism and media work. The findings show how intrapreneurial activity is enacted through interconnected practices across levels and depends on surrounding organisational conditions. The article offers a systematic way to analyse intrapreneurial activity in journalism and offers practical insights for news media professionals and organisations seeking renewal by showing how innovation is put into practice in everyday media work.
