    Abstract

This paper describes an approach to involve potential users in the design of future emerging technologies. We have involved people in the development of nanotechnology based sensor systems. This emerging technology will facilitate several different applications in the future. We engaged people to discuss and ideate future visions in an online innovation space. The lively discussions helped us to identify most promising application fields and to identify main concerns. The results show that by societal awareness actions we can empower people to influence our future technical environments well before the actual implementation of emerging technologies will be possible.
