Abstract
Finland is actively embracing the possibilities of Internet of Things. The strong competence in mobile and wireless communication technology is seen as a valuable asset. The Finnish R&D community has reacted to the rising importance of IoT. The national funding organisation launched a seven-year program on ubiquitous computing and communications (Ubicom) in 2007. Recently, national Public Private Partnership organisation Tivit, with the support of Tekes, launched a four year IoT programme with estimated budget of ca. 60 M . The program is driven by multinational companies Ericsson, Nokia, Renesas and Metso alongside a number of SMEs . VTT is the largest research partner involved, others including University of Oulu, Aalto University and TUT.
