Abstract
The article addresses immigration and international mobility of highly skilled people in case of domestic r&d units of large enterprises based in Finland. The differences between industries regarding their ability to attract highly skilled people from abroad are highlighted. The current bottlenecks and challenges for immigration and international mobility are analysed, as well as the solutions used by large enterprises to overcome these problems. The analysis is based on the qualitative interview study that was conducted between December 2020 and February 2021. The r&d management of twenty top-performing enterprises was interviewed about the drivers and barriers of business r&d activities, including issues concerning the availability of highly skilled workforce and international mobility.
