    Abstract

Companies need to control several different sectors of corporate safety and security including, for example, occupational health and safety, environmental safety, premises security, crime prevention, rescue operations and emergency planning, information security, and personnel security. Corporate safety and security management is connected tightly into corporate-wide risk management. Presently risk management is becoming more and more comprehensive including combined actions of risks and management of complexity, uncertainty and ambiguity. Challenges of globalization and the continued quest for greater returns have made enterprise-wide risk management more critical issue for companies and public organizations. New information and communication technologies, complex supplier network and globalization have introduced significant new risks. The new risks and more comprehensive risk management approach demands more comprehensive corporate safety and security management. The operating range of safety and security is quite wide and the responsibilities, activities and procedures connected with safety and security are often patchy, diverse, and at times even overlapping. This paper discusses the need for a connection between these sectors in safety and security management. The main purpose is to model connection between risk management and corporate safety and security management. The model emphasises co-operation and close interaction inside the company between safety and security personnel, line and the top management, and workers. Co-operation with external safety or security interest groups of the company is also important.
