Abstract

The criteria used in selecting products and materials are increasingly related to environmental impacts during the life cycle. Life cycle thinking is well suited for remediation of contaminated sediments. It can be used in selecting most environmentally friendly options for dredging, treatment and disposal of sediments. In this work, assessment and comparison procedure (SEDU) was created to identify environmental impacts during a sediment remediation project. Sediment contamination is recognized as a widespread and serious problem and the management of contaminated sediments presents significant challenges. However, with optimal selection of dredging and treatment technologies, costs and environmental effects can be minimised.
