Abstract
This Editorial provides the opportunity both to reflect on this conference and to introduce the papers in this special issue. The authors shaped the conference through their respective roles as Scientific Committee Chair and Scientific Secretary for SB11. The intention is to document some of those key strategic decisions, the thinking underpinning those decisions and to offer insight to future conferences, as well as to scholars in this field. As one moment in a larger continuum of discourse on a sustainable built environment, it is useful to situate SB11 within the changing nature and ambitions associated with how the research community articulates these concerns.
