Abstract

We present an energy flexibility market that aims to empower small flexibility providers with full control over their market presence and actions. Providers offer various locally owned, managed, and activated flexibility assets to the market, facilitated by automated trading agents interacting with the marketplace and the local energy management system. Buyers can harness flexibility for various purposes ranging from addressing local grid issues to integrating consumer flexibility for further trading to other markets or for balancing needs. The platform is designed for centralised and decentralised deployment by introducing decentralised digital identities (DIDs) and private wallets, allowing it to operate as an individual or multiple marketplaces with independent operators. The platform offers additional functionalities such as access control, data integrity, logging, and a ranking system built on smart contracts. The marketplace is currently developed and tested together with six pilot sites across Europe. The pilot sites present a unique set of small flexibility providers including multi apartment and large commercial buildings located in rural and urban areas. Each site develops an autonomous trading agent communicating to the local energy management system and executing flexibility offers to the market. This paper presents the core concepts of the GLocalFlex flexibility marketplace.
