Abstract

A metallographic analysis of a boat sample cut from the position E-8 of TMI-2 RPV lower head is presented. The microstructure has been studied with light and scanning electron microscopes. An estimation of peak temperatures in the stainless steel cladding and in the base metal at various distances has been made. The estimates are based mainly on the degree of the spheroidizing of δ-ferrite in the weld clad and the grain growth in the base metal when comparing with microstructures after simulated heat treatments.
