Abstract

The recent developments of the hardware, software and communication standards have enabled the usage of simulation to test the automation application. The process-wide simulation models can be executed using inexpensive standard hardware. The standardisation of the communication has decreased the costs and effort needed to connect the simulator to the automation system. To further ease the task of the test engineer, working methods and dedicated tools are needed for requirements management, test case generation and execution and analysis of the test results. This document presents a working methods for simulation assisted automation testing. Furthermore the possibilities of the simulation during the automation system life cycle and requirements for the tools supporting the working methods are discussed.
