Abstract

The presentation shows an overview on the latest development on the onboard ballast water treatment methods. First an overview over the aliens distribution in the Baltic Sea has been described. The the actions of IMO/MEPC has been shown with a more detailed decsription on the EU-funded research project MARTOB. VTT is a partner of this research programme where the main goal is to investigate methodologies and technologies for preventing the introduction of non-indigenous species through ship's ballast water.
