Abstract
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are noncoding single-stranded RNAs that post-transcriptionally suppress specific sets of genes. There is an increasing amount of evidence for under- and over-expression of several miRNAs in cancer as compared to the normal tissue, and miRNAs are likely to have important roles in the development of cancer metastasis as well. We have used genome-wide miRNA expression profiling and functional cell-based screening of miRNAs and miRNA inhibitors to identify differences between a highly and weakly bone metastatic variants of the breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231.
