Abstract
The European Parliament and the Council approved the new Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD) in autumn 2024. The update particularly expands the obligations of large treatment plants to remove hazardous substances, the so-called micropollutants. In Finland, the current removal of micropollutants is insufficient, so treatment plants require investments, the costs of which are estimated based on international and domestic examples
