Modeling the external behavior of electronic products

Abstract

An essential task in the specification of an electronic product is to model and validate the customer's viewpoint, i.e., the external behavior of a system. The process is iterative and incremental, including plenty of human communication. An architecture for modeling external behavior is presented in this report, the goal of which is to give the models of external behavior a structure and presentation that make them consistent, understandable and manageable. The structure of external behavior is presented, as well as a solution for presenting it satisfactorily. The presentation is based on utilization of the Statecharts notation. The approach is illustrated through a case study - the model of a digital watch.
