Abstract

Current state of safety and main environmental concerns of Moldovan railways are described and recommendations for reorganisation, new methods and procedures for further development of safety and environment are out-lined. The report is a background paper for the final report of the TACIS project, which provides an advanced re-structuring plan for the Moldovan railways. The purpose of the project is to revitalise and prepare Moldovan railways for successful operation in a market economy.
