    Abstract

The optical sensor design developed for experimental determination of oil film pressure was used in journal bearing tests. The pressure was measured with both static and dynamic load conditions with different loads and speeds. The pressure measured in dynamic load tests with optical sensors mounted in the center line of the journal bearing showed good sensitivity and repeatability. In the static load tests different pressure behaviour was observed for sensors situated in the inlet and in the outlet region of the journal bearing and features, such as cavitation in the outlet region could be detected.
