N2 - The welds XK010 and XK011 represent closure welds of the
nuclear waste canisters that have been executed using
full-scale components. XK010 is continuous, with stabile
parameters made weld. On the other hand XK011 has nine
test sectors where different welding parameters are
applied. The weld quality was examined applying
non-destructive methods i.e. ultrasonic (UT) and
radiographic (RT) techniques. During the realisation the
application of the non-destructive techniques and systems
these were just in starting phase concerning the
full-scale closure weld examinations. Therefore the
results are not fully comparable with the results
originating from later examinations where more developed
systems are applied.
The nine welds with identifications XK056 - XK064 are
continuous test welds made in different phases of the
welding method development program. All these welds were
inspected using already rather routine inspection
techniques which were applied in several other
inspections of this type of welds in similar manner. The
applied inspection techniques were ultrasonic (UT) and
radiographic (RT) methods.
The report describes briefly the applied ultrasonic and
radiographic techniques and the results of the data
analysis.
