Abstract
The use of neutron activation analysis in geological research and mineral exploration in Finland during the years 1970-1990 is described in the form of case histories. These are the analysis of lunar samples from the Apollo missions, research on rare earth element geochemistry, exploration for uranium and gold and geochemical multi-element mapping. The development of methods and instrumentation is also described. The benefits and drawbacks of the method are discussed for each case.
