New single-mode condition for silicon rib waveguides

    Abstract

    The paper provides a new single-mode condition for silicon rib waveguides. It was obtained from full-vectorial modal analysis and confirmed with a 3D beam-propagation-method. The new formula is valid also for small rib waveguides and with thin slabs.
