Next generation networks and the concept of service-centric warfare

The changing character of warfare requires large modifications to existing C3 systems. Inrecent years the ideas of Network-Centric Warfare have largely set the goals: JOINT, Situational Awareness, Interoperability, faster decision loop and so on. It should be noted that NCW may not be the whole answer to many militaries because NCW cannot addressall realistic threat scenarios and it seems to make assumptions of military superiority of the Blue side. There is a need to study alternative paradigms as well. The article investigates military applicability of the Next Generation Network concept in telecommunication operators’ roadmap for the future. The idea of Service-Centric Warfare is suggested for initial discussion on alternative paradigms.
