Abstract
Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS)
connects road users and traffic management to live
traffic network. Sharing Safety Related Traffic
Information (SRTI) in this network offers great
possibilities to enhance traffic safety and road
efficiency. While traffic safety is the main aim, road
authorities and infrastructure owners can get financial
benefit when building cost-efficient and long lasting
solutions - all which cellular C-ITS may enable today -
using existing infrastructure that offers high
scalability and therefore possibility for high impact.
This paper presents NordicWay project and NordicWay, Coop
pilot - European Commission (EC) CEF funded cellular
C-ITS pilots. The Coop is the Finnish national initiative
that pilots most of the EC delegated regulation 886/2013
SRTI messages on Finnish roads. First successful proof of
concept results in 3G and 4G/LTE network presented
bidirectional average latencies between static mobile
devices and C-ITS server of 1.28 s and between mobile
phone and ITS server of 3.64 s.
