Abstract
The need for vibration and shock control is increasing
while lightweight structures are coming more common and
replacing conventional massive machinery constructions.
For past 15 years novel methods to protect machinery,
equipment, personnel and structures have been studied in
Technical Research Center of Finland (VTT). In several
different research projects many new innovative methods
to improve dynamical behaviour of structures have been
developed and tested. Some of the tested methods have
been commercialized. The goal of the new methods have
always been keeping the solutions as simple, reliable and
affordable as possible. This paper presents new methods
to improve dynamical behaviour of structures including
mass dampers, adjustable vibration isolator and nonlinear
shock isolator. The tests have been conducted in
laboratory and with real life applications including
vibration and shock phenomena.
